Details

This cruise is aboard our new smaller vessel the M/V Celia Thaxter. See photo.

“Piscataqua” is an Abenaki Indian term meaning, “where the rivers meet and flow to the sea”.  In fact, the Piscataqua River is actually a huge tidal estuary stretching many miles inland. After leaving downtown Portsmouth behind we’ll explore the entire length of the Piscataqua River up to “The Fork”, the convergence of the Piscataqua, Cocheco, and Salmon Falls rivers. Our Captain’s narration will guide you through the history of the area as we cruise under bridges, past working shipping terminals, fishing piers, and finally into the little developed area of the river where nature abounds. This is what the region looked like when the first settlers explored these waterways. Bring your camera as foliage, industry, wildlife and historic buildings provide many excellent photo opportunities!
